Nerfs are a way to limit the visibility of a Farcaster account on Warpcast.
Since publishing to the Farcaster protocol is permissionless and user-controlled, we can’t remove a malicious account or content from the network. We can only choose not to show it on Warpcast.
When the Warpcast team nerfs an account, it is removed from the Warpcast app. This is similar to being de-indexed by a search enginge. However, the account is unaffected at the protocol.
This is a client-specific decision / feature and not a protocol-level decision / feature.
Since nerfs only apply to Warpcast clients, decisions on nerfing an account will be made by the Warpcast team (i.e. not automated).
The most likely reasons Warpcast will nerf an account:
Warpcast does not use nerfs for “low quality” or “low effort” users; rather, Priority mode being turned on by default for all users makes these accounts have minimal visibility on Warpcast.
