Farcaster has a recovery system to protect a user if they lose their recovery phrase.

Users can nominate another address to act as their recovery, which can transfer the farcaster id to a new address at any time. There are two ways you can set up your recovery

Recovery Options

Warpcast Recovery (Default)

When you sign up with Warpcast, your recovery address is set to 0x00000000fcD5A8E45785c8A4b9a718C9348e4F18. This an address that Warpcast controls. If you lose your recovery phrase Warpcast can recover your account for you.

• ✅ If you lose your account, Warpcast can always recover it for you.
• ❌ If Warpcast is malicious, your farcaster account can be taken over.
• ❌ If Warpcast is compromised, your farcaster account can be taken over.

Self-Hosted Recovery

You can manage the recovery yourself by changing the recovery address from the Warpcast address to one that you control (e.g. your Metamask Wallet).

• ✅ Warpcast has no control over your account
• ❌ If this address and the recovery address are lost, you account can never be recovered.
