tl;dr

• Farcaster v3 is coming soon and anyone can sign up and start using the network.
• Existing users don’t need to do anything — the first year of storage is free and you’ll keep your Farcaster username.
• New users will have to pay $5/year to use the network.
• App developers will have to make some changes (see developer guide).

When does this happen?

Migration (Aug 29th)

The migration is when we move the contracts from testnet to mainnet. When this happens:

• Existing users will have their current storage limits and can pay more for additional storage.
• You may not be able to sign into new Farcaster apps until they upgrade to v3. Any apps you’re already signed into will work.

Permissionless Signups (Oct/Nov):

Permissionless signups is when we allow anyone to create an account. This will happen a month or two after the migration once we’ve had a chance to test and validate the contracts. When this happens:

• Anyone can join Farcaster by signing up through Warpcast or interacting directly with the contracts.
